The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi received a warm welcome by the US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden at the White House. Going by Modi’s choice of vegetarian diet, they hosted a State Dinner with a plant-based menu of millets, salads and vegetarian dishes. The menu included grilled corn kernel salad and tangy avocado sauce, portobello mushrooms and creamy saffron-infused risotto with rose and cardamom-infused strawberry shortcake for dessert.
The decor featured elements from the cultures of both the countries such as peacock and the bald eagle. The dinner tables were adorned with lotus blooms. As a part of the entertainment, they had American violinist Joshua Bell and Penn Masala, a South-Asian group.
About 400 guests dined at the State Dinner held on the South Lawn of the White House.
