Shraddha and Ayush Murarka bring to the city of Kolkata their very own brand of style and elegance in the swanky new store Vizyon . A stylish mannequin complete in bold designs, extravagant fabric, well-heeled shoes, high-end jewellery and the right accessories welcomes you into Kolkata's latest western couture outlet, Vizyon. Conceptualised by Ayush and Shraddha Murarka, director and creative director of Vizyon respectively, this husband and wife team endeavours to bring an international standard of fashion to the city through their fashionable retail store. Vizyon, meaning ‘vision' in French, showcases and sells the designs of renowned global couturiers. The duo sensed the need for international apparel in Kolkata and thus created Vizyon to fill this niche. The Murarkas have let word of mouth do the talking for their unique selection of elegant and bold designerwear. As Shraddha says, “We have had no big launches to say that we are here, and it is only words of appreciation that have gone around to get us our clients.”
On first glance, Shraddha captivates you with her simplicity and oodles of charm. Endowed with a serene demeanour and perfectly chiselled features, her talent and creativity in retailing the right western couture enhance the effect of her personality. Having schooled from Kolkata's Modern High School, she went on to do a diploma in fashion designing from the Birla Institute of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences followed by marriage at the age of 21.
Ayush, a graduate of St Xavier's College is an entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience as partner of Venture Exports. His familiarity with the export house gave him a platform to make contact with international designers and bring their work to Indian shores. His expertise and knowledge is well-translated today in the choice of fabrics, styling and designing that he provides to his clients.
Heralding new concepts
An 800 sq ft outlet, Vizyon is a mélange of international and modern sensibilities. Wooden flooring, stone tiles, white textured walls and a charming mural add to the allure of the store, bringing to it an international appeal. This unique boutique houses exclusive clothing of international fashion maestros like Yeojin Bae from Australia, Arzu Karpol from Turkey, Fillipo Gnelli from Italy, Berit Steffin from Austria and Mercedes de Miguel from Spain. A global fashion destination indeed!
Warnings from friends that Kolkata may not accept bold western wear did not deter Ayush from choosing designs that are ‘bold' yet inoffensive.
“I believe Kolkata is ready for such ensembles. And if our home city can absorb us, we will open branches in Mumbai and Delhi . More than doing well, we are committed to an international standard of finishing, styling and fabric,” explains Ayush.
