A legacy of pride

The establishment of Badalia Gems Jewellers dates back to 100 years. The Marwari Jain family, originally belonging to a village called Basai in Haryana, also has its roots in Rajasthan. “As a family, we regularly visit the Jain temples in Jaipur and Jodhpur. Many of our clients hail from Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur,” shares Ravi Badalia, Chairman, Badalia Gems Jewellers. His wife Chitra— belonging to the Golcha family—was born and raised in Jaipur, and their daughters-in-law Ruchi, Ritika and Shelly have their older generations based in Rajasthan.

It was a century ago that Mangalsenji shifted base to Kolkata as a first-generation jeweller. “My great grandfather landed in the city of joy 100 years ago, with the hope to set up his own unit.

The city offered intricate craftsmanship that inspired him to learn the skills of crafting beautiful jewellery and starting his own jewellery store from his home at Beadon Street, to cater to the needs of royalty as well as common people,” mentions Badalia.

Mangalsenji’s divine blessings enabled his son Pyarelalji to carry forward the legacy on the same principles. He was joined by his son Hiralalji who continued the jewellery business after his father. Hiralalji’s son Ravi Badalia joined him in 1974 and expanded the business to greater heights and earned pride of place in the industry. Fast forward to today, Ravi Badalia and his three sons Chickoo, Raunak and Yash have relaunched it as a modern-day jewellery brand that offers a medley of diamond and fine jewellery collection that redefines elegance and splendour.

The journey of 100 years

Looking back, Badalia Gem's century-old journey is full of highlights, defining moments and significant milestones. The brand came into the limelight with the opening of an exclusive jewellery boutique on 22 Camac Street in Kolkata—one of the best business-friendly locations with a high footfall of customers. Walk into the boutique and you find it humming with customers trying out the extensive range of jewellery creations.
